0 Love Triangle: A Player’s Perspective on His Relationships with the Guitar, Technology, and the Audience
Lecture | March 3, 2014 | Parsons The New School for Design
Multi-faceted guitarist and programmer Joe Ravo will take us on a journey exploring some of the reasons the guitar has grown to become the most popular and widely used musical instrument of our age. The discussion/performance will visit world-wide technological advances over the last century that affected the guitar’s development, the player-instrument connection, and the audience-performer relationship.
Through performances with his trio that includes Greg Maker (bass) and Danny Mallon (percussion), Joe will demonstrate how the technology and designs of different guitars promote different sound concepts and genres, and ultimately, enable an acoustic instrument once bound by its small voice to become an amplified instrument whose sound fills stadiums.
